Because RESA Seattle (Real Estate Staging Association) focuses our talents and experience on a service project every year, we recently joined forces with the Highline School District, specifically Cascade Middle School for our 2009 project.  We will donate our talents and services to enhance their work and study environments.

We chose Cascade Middle School because,

  • These students face a lot of challenges.  Many are considered At Risk often dropping out of High School.  82% of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch. The student population speaks 23 different languages; typically these students are under represented in higher education; the community they live in has experienced increased gang activity.
  • Cascade Middle School and the entire Highline School District are committed to creating and fostering a culture of high inspiration, responsibility, and citizenship, as well as instilling college and career goals for their students.

WHY SCHOOLS?

Teachers and school Administrators have the responsibility of shaping our future leaders, scientists, philanthropists, artists, Presidents, activists, environmentalists, entrepreneurs, corporate heads, doctors etc and yes, future teachers. Yet teaching remains among the most underpaid, under appreciated and undervalued professions.

Students deserve a school environment they are proud of, and that allows them to thrive as they develop socially and academically.  With limited school budgets there never seems to be enough money to put towards cosmetic improvements.  It is not uncommon for teachers and administrators to dip into their own pockets to pay for things like paint, furnishings, and materials in an effort to create inspiring classrooms.

HOW WE CAN HELP:

We want to honor this committed staff and help these students by donating our talents and services to enhance their work and study environments. We strongly believe that surroundings have a powerful effect on our state of mind and our ability to concentrate, be creative, relax, and connect with our peers.

This solar farm is currently the largest PV array in Washington, and is also the first “virtual net metering” system. City of Ellensburg utility customers can purchase shares of the PV array and have their share of PV production deducted from their electric bill. This allows people to participate in renewable energy production without having to buy a complete PV system, or having good solar exposure at their home or business. As additional people participate, the PV farm will be expanded to as much as 168kW. Because of the community support to date, both phase 1 (24kW) and phase 2 (12kW) were installed initially.

The current installation consists of 120 RWE Schott 300 watt modules and 5 SMA SunnyBoy 6000 grid tie inverters and went on-line November 17, 2006.
